As I continue to learn more about the great things Apple has done with OS X, I wanted to share another way in which information-gathering has been transformed for me.

Trying to stay on top of all the trends and newsworthy items in the computer, software, smartphone and other device arenas can be time consuming and intimidating.  Previously, I would bookmark pages of various publications, and then sift through their articles, columns, and feeds individually looking for relevant topics and posts.  Also, I would subscribe to print or electronic versions of PCWorld or PCMagazine.  However, one of the ingenious features of Safari is how it can handle a whole set of RSS feeds in a creative, super-efiicient interface.

With Safari, I am able to add RSS feed URLs to a special Bookmark “collection”, which I then “pin” to the Bookmarks bar.  When I click this list in Safari, I can choose individual feeds and immediately see how many unread entries each has from the menu, or choose to see them all in one list!  If I view them all, Safari further has intelligent, built-in tools that appear on the right side of the browser, allowing me to search all the entries by keyword, move a slider to scale how much information from each post is displayed, sort by Date, Title, Source, or New, and click to go to a specific source.  It has revolutionized the way I stay on top of topics and makes it much easier to add new sources to the stream as I find them.

I would really miss this feature if it went away, or when I am forced to use other browsers on other machines :)

If you like RSS-style news, try it out.  It won’t disappoint.
